Why this journey
This family journey is designed around a slower rhythm. Instead of moving every day, most stops last two nights so children and parents have time to settle in, enjoy the experience and recover between longer drives.
The route combines Marrakech, the Atlas foothills around Demnate, Dadès Valley, the Sahara, Fes, Rabat and Essaouira. Along the way, families can mix city guiding with walks, mule riding, desert exploration, music, camel riding, coastal time and free afternoons.
The itinerary is a starting point rather than a rigid package. Activities, rooming, meal arrangements and the level of adventure can all be adjusted around the ages, interests and energy of your family.
Signature moments
Two-night stays reduce constant packing and give families time to explore, rest and enjoy each destination properly.
Balance manageable walks, mule riding, Sahara 4×4 exploration, camel riding and local experiences with free time and lighter afternoons.
After the desert, cities and long drives, spend two final nights in Essaouira with beach time, seafood and optional horse riding or guiding.
Day by day
A suggested rhythm to shape together. Where days are grouped, the detailed daily arrangements are developed in your proposal.
Your private driver meets the family at Marrakech Menara Airport and transfers you directly to your riad or hotel. There is no fixed sightseeing schedule on arrival day. Check in, settle after the flight and enjoy the remainder of the day at your own pace.
After breakfast, meet your private local guide for an introduction to Marrakech. Explore selected parts of the old city, its architecture, everyday medina life and historical sites at a pace suited to the family. The remainder of the day is free for gardens, cafés, the pool or another optional activity.
Leave Marrakech after breakfast and travel toward Demnate. Visit Imi n’Ifri, the natural rock bridge near the town, then continue to your accommodation. Keep the rest of the afternoon light so the family can relax after the transfer.
Keep the day deliberately lighter. Explore the surrounding countryside through an easy walk adapted to the children's ages and the season. The day can include time in a local village, a simple family lunch or cooking experience, and free time at the accommodation. The exact activity level is agreed with the family beforehand.
After breakfast, travel south toward Aït Ben Haddou. Visit the historic ksar and learn more about its earthen architecture. During this section of the journey, families can also discover Amazigh carpet-weaving traditions and learn how regional patterns, materials and techniques differ across southern Morocco. Continue to Dadès Valley, check into your accommodation and enjoy dinner.
Take a family-friendly guided walk around the Monkey Fingers rock formations and nearby valley scenery. Add a mule experience through the countryside for families who want something more interactive. Later, there can be an opportunity to visit local nomad families for tea and conversation before returning to the hotel. The standard arrangement is a second hotel night, but families can replace it with a simple overnight experience with local nomad hosts, subject to season, weather, access and availability.
Leave the valley after breakfast and continue through southeastern Morocco toward the Sahara. The changing landscapes become part of the experience as you approach Merzouga. On arrival, check into your desert hotel and relax. The main Sahara activities are saved for tomorrow.
After breakfast, set out on a 4×4 exploration around Merzouga. Visit Khamlia and experience the musical traditions for which the village is known. A traditional medfouna lunch can be arranged as an optional meal and paid separately. Later in the afternoon, take a camel ride toward the dunes and your desert camp. Watch the sunset, have dinner at the camp and spend the night in the Sahara.
Wake to the desert morning and enjoy breakfast before beginning the long drive north to Fes. This is intentionally treated as a transfer day, with comfort stops along the journey but no heavy sightseeing programme. On arrival in Fes, check in and relax.
Meet your private licensed Fes guide after breakfast. Part of the tour is completed by vehicle, including panoramic viewpoints, the Royal Palace area and selected parts of the city that are easier to reach by car. Then continue on foot into the medina. Explore narrow streets, traditional crafts, architecture and historic quarters at a pace that can be adapted to the children, with breaks added when needed.
After breakfast, depart privately for Rabat. Check into your accommodation and keep the afternoon relatively light after the transfer. Families can explore independently, relax at the hotel or simply enjoy a quieter evening.
After breakfast, make the short journey from Rabat to Casablanca. Visit the Hassan II Mosque, with entrance tickets paid separately according to the available visiting schedule. After the Casablanca visit, return to Rabat and spend the remainder of the day discovering selected historical and cultural sites. A private Rabat guide is optional and can be added for families who want deeper historical interpretation.
Leave Rabat and travel toward Morocco's Atlantic coast. Arrive in Essaouira and check into your hotel or riad. At this stage of the journey, Essaouira is deliberately not packed with activities. Walk by the sea, explore independently, enjoy seafood or simply relax.
Enjoy your final full day at your own pace. Families can spend time on the beach, walk through the medina, visit the harbour or enjoy the cafés and coastal atmosphere. Optional experiences can include a horse ride or a private guided introduction to Essaouira. Otherwise, keep the entire day free.
After breakfast, depart Essaouira by private vehicle and return to Marrakech. The final arrangements depend on the family's flight schedule. We can organise airport drop-off, an additional Marrakech night or another onward arrangement as part of the final proposal.
