Your journey begins with an early departure from Fes at around 8:00 AM. We travel south through the Middle Atlas Mountains, where landscapes gradually shift from green hills to desert panoramas.
Our first stop is Ifrane, often called the “Switzerland of Morocco” for its alpine-style architecture and clean atmosphere.
We continue toward the cedar forests near Azrou, home to the famous Barbary macaques.
After lunch in Midelt, we drive along the breathtaking Ziz Valley, known for its endless palm groves and dramatic oasis views.
By late afternoon, we reach Merzouga, gateway to the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi.

After lunch near the gorge, we drive through the scenic Dades Valley.

There is so much to see around there but without a guide you do not really understand what you're looking at, and our guide, Abdel, certainly knew his stuff giving us the background and history to both Marrakech and Marocco before setting off and showing us around the sites in that area. The markets were best described as incredible, with the most amazing colours everywhere you looked, and filled too with a lot of strange traffic going through them, like horses and carts, motorbikes, and barrows being pushed along by the miriad of workers; Abdel did very well keeping us all safe at all times!
